"Toothprints"
Child ID Program
One
of the greatest fears of parents today is that their child will
get lost, or worse, be abducted. As dental professionals, we
can now offer "Toothprints"
a means of providing
parents with a proven means of identifying their child with
a bite impression and DNA and saliva samples. These can be critical
as the fight against tooth decay has left many children with
no cavities and thus, no fillings for identification purposes.
"Toothprints"
is a wafer that is softened in warm water. The child bites into
the wafer, creating a bite registration that documents the patient's
unique tooth characteristics, tooth position and jaw relationship-
all important identifiers. The wafer is then sealed in a "zipper
type" plastic bag, keeping sufficient proteins from saliva
available for DNA testing and enough scent for a trained dog
to identify and track with it, should that be necessary.
It
is recommended that updates be taken on the following schedule:
| |
Initial
Impression: |
Age
3 (or after all primary teeth have erupted) |
| |
Update
#1: |
Age
7 or 8 (or after the upper and lower incisors and the first
permanent molar have erupted) |
| |
Update
#2: |
Age
12 or 13 (or after all permanent excluding third molars
have erupted) |
Our
office will provide patients with this service for the nominal
fee of $5.00. It's easy, comfortable and will give parents peace
of mind. Hopefully, they'll never have to use it!
Appointment
Reminder System
Our office
has implemented a personalized appointment reminder system
that will call your home to remind you of upcoming appointments
with our office.
The
system will access your home phone number and deliver an informative
message pertaining to your next appointment. After you hear
your appointment reminder message, you will be asked to confirm
your appointment by pressing '1' or replaying the message by
pressing '2'. You will also be able to leave a message for our
staff.
You
will be called one or two days prior to your next appointment.
To ensure that you receive your appointment reminder, we will
schedule your call to be made in the early evening. If you are
not available, you will receive a message on your answering
machine.
With
the busy schedules of our patients and their parents, it can
sometimes be very difficult to speak to a parent prior to an
appointment. We have decided to implement this new system because
we feel it is important to provide a higher level of service
and a more efficient means of communication. As always, you
can contact our office at (908)757-3191 to speak to our staff
or Dr. Sklar during our regular office hours.
We
are looking forward to your feedback on our new system. If you
have any questions, please feel free to contact us at your convenience.
